DIY Halloween: Moonrise Kingdom!

 SUZY BISHOP:
you will need....
-a peach/salmon/coral or yellow-colored dress (like this one, or this one)
-a pair of binoculars
-blue eyeshadow (lots of it!)
some other suzy accessories include:
-beetle earrings (what i did was i printed out this picture, cut it out with an xacto knife, and glued it onto a pair of studs from michael's)
-saddle shoes
-a basket-style purse
-a gray kitten (real or fake :)
-a white collar- and here's a DIY!

1) place a sheet of scratch paper onto a thin book/magazine

2) spread out a t-shirt or high-necked shirt so that the collar is flat

 3) put the paper and book inside the shirt, and trace the shape of the collar onto the paper

4) remove the sheet of paper and cut out the shape

5) fold in half

6) this part is kind of tricky to explain, but basically cut a folded sheet of felt into the shape in step 7

 7) your collar should look like this

8) once unfolded, glue one side of the collar together with a dab of fabric glue, and affix another side together with a hook, a snap, or a button.

here's madeline's costume-

SAM SHAKUSKY:
in order to be Sam, you will need..
-a coonskin cap
-a yellow scarf
-a boy scout/khaki shirt
-boy scout/khaki shorts
-some awesome glasses

you could also carry a gun (definitely fake!), a camping backpack, and some camping gear.

for my costume, I found a khaki dress from the salvation army, dyed it greenish, and made a bunch of patches out of fabric scraps. i also trimmed the pockets with yellow fabric and embroidered (or attempted to...) his name onto it. i think on halloween i will wear some kind of brooch to substitute for the pin sam wears that belonged to his mother.
